Black Or White ?

Hi all,

Have just agreed a sale on my Rav 4.3 and am about to place an order for a 4.4

My only hesitancy is colour

Have owned 5 black cars in total over the years and, in my opinion, nothing comes close to a freshly washed black car for looks. The only down side being 24 hours later they're not clean anymore !!!

But , again, in my opinion, the trade off is worth it.

Now, we absolutely love the look of the new white ones, solid white, not the pearlescent one but wondered how easy they are to maintain compared to the black ?

White, you would think, would show the dirt up more than black but I'm led to believe different.

Any thoughts/opinions/experiences ?

Paul.

The white is actually slower to show the dirt, whereas you know by bitter experience a quick drive doon yer street and that black one is bowfin'......silver is best for looking clean the longest.

Still white, even with the welding flash every time you polish it.

White !! Black is out now and as above looks brilliant for a day then its back where you started..

I agree with the above.. Silver is great followed by white and the red for looking good longest...

Dark colours show the swirls and marks too much . . . This Rav is my first Black car . . . and my last . . . Roll on summer so I can do the paintwork correction. :(

I've had a white car before, and no issues with polishing (as long as you don't do it in bright light :) )

Personally I'd go with boring silver . . .or possibly Decuma Grey . . . but as I won't be getting a 4.4 I don't have to worry about it

I had a white carina in the late 70's... wouldn't have another white car..

Looked a bit like a panda in the summer, with all the dead flies and tar spots all over it it...

At least with a black car you wouldn't see them so much ?

I love black cars and if you are the type of guy who really does love washing your car PROPERLY on a very frequent basis, then that is probably the most rewarding colour to have.

White has made a real comeback and looks great when clean, but you don't get that 'wow' factor after a proper detail like with black.

I would be inclined to be looking down the Decuma Grey route personally as I am not really into washing cars unless someone is paying me to do so :)

Black with tinted out windows looks the dogs.

Don't care if it gets dirty again, nothing looks better than black when it's just finished.

Dave

(Btw has black car)

......then goes round his mates ON A BIKE, and invites them to come see his newly washed car......before that evening's dewpoint, as next morning it will be covered in water marks, coz it's black....LOL.......

Usually, yes. But not when I just clayed it, then the dirt water etc couldn't stick to it for a week. Looked beautiful!

I was my RAV twice a year, even if it doesn't need it.....

It's why I bought silver

I've had both. Two blacks (LC & RAV 4.2) were !Removed! nightmares - will never, ever have a black car again. White Rover 216 (going back a bit now) and white Astra Sri weren't a problem. Daughter's just bought new Audi Q3 in met white; she's had it 4 days now without a wash & it still looks good.

Our Argent Silver 4.2 has the best colour IMHO. It manages to stay clean longer than most colours & has not needed alot of maintenance to keep it looking good.

Out of the 2 colours, which ive had both of i would go white . Black is very nice but the fine scratches and swirls drove me crazy. Ive a silver one now and shows nothing in way of swirls . A great alround colour has to be the grey for me .

Silver is the best for hiding dirt, black is a nightmare as stated earlier shows muck and any light scratches really easily. Our current dark grey Rav is ok at hiding dirt but does seem to show scratches easily.

Blue for a car is quite a good colour, red seems to fade in sunlight no matter how many times you polish it.

You are all wrong I am afraid, the best colour for not showing dirt is the gold/beige colour of my RAV.

So much so that it has only needed washing once in the last two years.

It does need a quick wash now though, but if it rains this week I might get away with it for a few months longer.

Good call on the gold :). My first company car was gold coloured and happened to match dirt exactly :D

I once had a pair of beige trousers, but I recovered before I actually wore them in public!

No offence but beige isn't a colour it's a condition.

Mind you, you do the wonderful Cornsilk a dis-service by referring to it as beige. Beige is what my kids used to leave in their nappies after a tummy bug.

I have to say I saw a new one in green thought it looked rather good, certainly was different, you don't see many in green.

It's a stealth colour Gus...........

Well........if you get black, mud from off roading shows much better than on white......lol

Not that the new 4.4 will be any good off road :(

Only joking......i reckon it could look really " sharp " in white...very nice.
