Avensis D4D Loss Of Power

Hi guys, I have an avensis 2ltr d4d and last Month when I was driving it lost power and engine light came on. The code said it was the egr valve, had it taken off and cleaned along with the throttle body. Still the same but it sometimes power comes back. Basically when I'm driving if it looses power I just pull over, turn off engine for a min then restart on off it goes with full power(engine light still on). Any ideas guys. Had turbo and injectors checked and all appear fine. Please help me as my head is wrecked with this problem. Car could go perfect for a week and then the problem re occurs. Thanks in advance guys for your help

Always start with the basics, fuel filter first, change it if in any doubt, may have some water in it, but symptoms sound like SCV valves

I know that is for the RAV but the same valves are shared on various models

Thanks Graeme and parts King. I had a full service done which included the fuel and oil filter change. The code on the computer relates to the EGR valve. Had it cleaned to like new. Is it possible that I might need a new one and can it work faulty only now and again? Are the scv valves related to the egr?
