4.2 Replacement Rear Seat Belt

The near side rear seat belt no longer retracts. It also clicks when it is pulled out.

I assume the inertia mechanism is gone, so I plan just to replace it.

Can anyone confirm if any other Toyotas share the same seat belt, or is it specific to the Rav4? It would make the hunt for a second hand one easier just.

Thanks.

Sounds as if you're right about the inertia mechanism having failed. I would be inclined to source one from a breakers yard.

There are several 4.2s being broken on eBay at the moment. Give a couple of them a call and I'm pretty certain they will have the right part.

I replaced my rear offside seat belt twice in the past before I got a metal dog guard. Puppies have sharp teeth!!

I found that the breakers were wanting the same price for a used belt as Mr.T wanted for new so it was a no brainier. Only about £50 new. Plus it is one of those safety parts that isn't worth scrimping on IMHO.

Hope that helps? Lee

Well there's a surprise. I figured after recent parts inquiries from Mr T, that his price for such an important safety item would have been truly exorbitant.

Well it is a no brainer then, Mr T is your man.

He is indeed. Especially as its for strapping in the little Lyon cub!

Thanks folks, I'll give them a ring.
