I own a 2003 ( newish version) d4d avensis which has a very unhappy air conditioning compressor. Im trying to find a part number for it, or if the petrol version for this year is compatable? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks Craig

Hello,

no they are not interchangeable, the 1.8 petrol, 2.0 petrol and 2.0 d4d are all different and I would go for a recon unit rather than one from a breakers yard.

Take a look at this http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Toyota_Avensis_2.0_2003/p/car-parts/car-cooling-parts-and-car-heating/air-conditioning1/car-compressor/?232820251&1&74d1afdb365ed69b9ff586c8db79e3c901248fb1&000077

Also here is an attachment for your aircon system.

Regards

Pete,

Thanks for the replys

Yes its been getting steadily worse over the last few months. Have seen its a common problem on the avensis.

My problem is that i dont have the money for a new part from the dealer. They want around £450 and my mrs has just been made redundant so dont have any money spare.

I was looking at just getting one from a scrap yard or eBay but just need the part number if possible. I know its not the best solution but if it lasts me a year hopefully i will be in a better position to buy a new or recon one.

ok the aircon can be bypassed by fitting a shorter belt, from a avensis/carina without aircon. if you can live without aircon.

Part number toyota 5pk1113, I used motaquip vfb434.

have a read of this. http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=102421

I had the same problem, at the time scrap yards where not offering it cheap either as they probably knew about the fault.

I'm sure any garage/mechanic should be able to perform this operation.

The garage did say they could bypass it with a shorter belt, i was just trying to find a replacement before its mot next week. Have been quoted £190 delivered but i think thats abit steep for a used non recon part.

Thanks for all your help guys

I couldn't find a cheap one, even though you get one used, it may have the same problem if its a common fault.

end of the day its up to you.

Will go for bypassing the compressor with a shorter belt and get it replaced at a later date with a recon part. End of the day the air con in this country only gets used for a week or so.

Also have a look at http://www.ahesrl.it...compressori.pdf

The home page is http://www.ahesrl.it/cms/ENG/home.html

and they have sites in Italy France and England for lots of Compressor Replacement Parts, the Avensis parts look to be 47008 for the petrol and 47009 for the diesel on the contacts tab there are phone numbers to call also.

Hope this save a few people a few bob as the pump is quite expensive to replace

No I haven't as I only uncovered this information last night after looking around for a replacement A/C pump and finding the cost to be somewhat expensive for them, mines a 2.0TD on a 53 plate with 170k on the clock and still sounds sweet when the a/c is on  but she has quite a rattle on idle when the a/c is off so I'm thinking it's the bearing...

if anyone needs to by pass the aircon pulley. the belt you need measures 1110 mm. the original one should be 1253 mm. and make sure its 5 ribs, if anyone needs the measurement of alternator one (small) its 884 mm. hope this helps.
