According to the TV advert, that wee Oriental woman likes it so much, she kicks it up the backside so hard the bloody back door breaks and springs open.....does not bode well for customer satispleasure, what......?

Have a look at Honest John - 2013 Kuga review http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/ford/kuga-2013/? ; 2013 Rav4 review http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/toyota/rav4-2013/?section=good

The Ford Escape (the US equivalent to the Kuga II) has had four recalls in the States since launch a few months ago. The current recall for the 1.6 Ecoboost is due to reported overheating/fluid leakages - more than a dozen fires in the US and less than a dozen in Europe. Ford haven't got a solution yet.

Well, well, well. Nothing changes at Ford, then. Back in the eighties I used to have to do that in cold weather to get the boot open on the company MkIV/V Cortina. In the middle of the back number plate worked best IIRC. I expect things have changed but I attribute a good proportion of the pain from 2 prolapsed discs over the last thirty years to their ****** awful driving seats and the posture one was forced into with the lack of lumber support. Do I harbour grudges? Nah but have I ever walked into a Ford showroom with my own money jingling in my pocket? Er nah. So that is about 9 new car sales they have missed out on.

Exception to Fords pants-ness I think is the transit. Had one years ago and loved every minute of it. It had a hard life and never missed a beat.

My van (vauxhall rubbish) was having some work last week and I had a brand new transit for a couple of days. They are nice!! Very clever dash design with pockets and fold out bits actually of some use.

Shame about their cars (and 4x4s) that WE seem to get in England.

I find it a little sad when eveyone slates anything other than a Toyota.. Is it because we own one ?

Come on guys lets be honest all brands have problems and we here have ours too !

I drove almost nothing but Fords for donkeys years ! At least 50 Transits on a revolving replacement programme which meant that no van went past 3 years of age and I had very very few issues ! Laterly it was the EGR valves and that was it !

I actually like the Kuga ! Its a cracking car but would I choose one over say a new shape Rav or a runout 4.3 ? Err no but that doesn't mean its a bad car just not my choice...

I know whst you mean, but personally it makes no difference to me if I own it or don't. I own a LR for fooks sake! And I'm quite happy to slag that off!

My Toyota is brill, the Fords I've driven (escort old/new/van, fiesta) not too clever. Vauxhall (esp commercial) however- even worse! But I like Transits and Mondeos!

I rarely drive anything other than 4x4 and vans these days so my Rav is the smoothest most luxurious thing I drive!

Just an opinion.

Post 9, Charlie, Casey Jones (Grampa Walton's younger brother....?) drives a Suzuki, and like me has suffered prolapsed intervertebrae due to woeful (general) ergonomics of the marque. Seating still reminds me of bed settee.......

Funny you make that comment re Vauxhall commercials ... Do they do anything to the (Renault) Vivaro/Movano other then a different grill and Badge on the front to make them "Vauxhall" ? I have a Renault Master and find it very nice to drive despite only being 100BHP and running around permentantly at just under 3Tonne.

Admittedly it did fail its first MOT last week! Council tester found the hand brake was working at 14% efficiency and had to be at least 15%

I used to suffer bad back problems when I was driving 25-30k a year and that was from several marques - noticeably Renault where the pedals seemed offset to the seating and steering (several French cars don't translate to RHD very well).

I've been involved with may makes over the years and some are notoriously over rated - German in particular. I don't think you can compare a Transit van to other Fords because that vehicle has just evolved and evolved rather than get reintroduced. If it isn't right now it never will be. I'm not saying I would not run a Ford if say I was looking for one second hand but I wouldn't choose one from new from the current range. My comments about other brands come from working in a large mixed fleet of company cars. I just lump them all together as "OK" but nothing special. What I can say is that the Jap stuff tended to be more reliable even if abused.

It is some years since I worked in that fleet and things may have changed. Looking at various websites and listening to people at work, it hasn't changed a lot.

Don, ref pedal position ... Have you ever driven a Mercedes Vito? When I was looking and trying various vans last year, I borrowed a brand new Vito DualLiner manual from the Merc Dealer and put on about 500 miles over 3 days. If I could have returned it after 50 miles I would have as my left knee was killing me due to the clutch position and my right ankle was just as bad die to the accelerator.

I was speaking to someone a little while later who has to drive round a Sprinter and he said he had noticed since he had that vehicle he has a painful left knee sometimes - I wonder what kind of ergonomic testing companies actually do regarding seat and pedal positioning?

None, David......."geez yer cash" surveys done only......

It is sad, but I feel that most companies get Torquemada to do their ergonomics. I've had a variety of marques over the last 30 years, and the one thing that struck me about any Toyota I got in was the instant 'fit'of the drivers seat

There are some silly people about. and there is no accounting for taste.

In 2010 the popular top 4 selling cars were Fiesta,Astra,Focus and corsa.

in 2011 it was Fiesta,Focus,Corsa and Golf.

IN 2012 it was Fiesta Corsa, Focus and Astra.

Cant understand that, have these people not heard of Wonderful Toyota.

They cant have as theres not one in the Top Ten best Selling cars for those years.

They dont seem to be fleet size cars that sales person use so that cant be used as an escuse.

Though saying that the Focus that was parked next to mine looked very big indeed to what they used to be.

It is probably down to the deals that ford and Vauxhall promote rather then the quality of the product.

Personally I would have an Auris or Avensis over a Focus or Mondeo anyday.
