hey

is it possible to cause damage to my corolla t3 1.4i by accelerating quickly in 2nd gear to approx 5000 revs.

how easy is it to damage 2nd gear or a gearbox? are they any signs of a damaged gear box?

car has done about 4k miles.

any advice would be appreciated

Paul

I dont think it will do damage doing it the odd time, but it certainly does put more stress on the engine, for which I doubt it will do it any good....

theoretical and practical.............NO!

Limit of revs. is set over 6000 rpm , and manufacturer know why set it so high/low(because this revs. are non harmful).

............of course wear and tear is higher at higher rev.

............and yes, you can destroy engine(part of it) if you accelerate (let say->) in

3th gear to 6000 revs. and than shift to 2nd gear.

yea of course you can damage if you are on like 6000rpm and reduce a gear

but if you keep using good oil like mobile 1(also check is there are enoght oil in engine)...let the car heat up first to normal temperature....than you shouldnt really damage engine by accelarating to redline..also there should be limit after you hit red color..about 1000rpm...so if redline starts about 6000rpm...you should try to push it to end and check when computer will cut-off fuel

also dont do that to much...only if you racing whit someone
