Creak From Rear-windscreen

I own an Avensis 1.6, model 8/2003, 17000 km and generally I' m satisfied for my choice. However, a month ago I noticed a strange creak coming from back. After examining the source of the sound, I concluded that the rear windscreen was responsible, in its upper part, where it is interworking with the metal roof. The most strange is that the creak isn't heard in the daylight, especially when the weather is warm! Obviously this has to do with the "contraction-dilatation" phenomenon in the metal area and due to this it is diffucult to get the problem detected by the official technicians, who may think of me as weird, quibbly and exaggerated in my comments.

Please help: Has somebody faced sth similar? What would you suggest for solving the problem? Is it usual for a car and a firm known for its quality in production to happen sth like that?

I have the 1.8 model and have the similar symptoms. Seemingly OK when the weather is warm and the creaking seems most obvious when the weather is cold and worse again when it's cold and dry. More that creaking, mine has evolved in the front as well, and worse again, the creak has gone to a cracking. I can find no obvious solution and I am reluctant even to let the garage at it as I fear that they may well fix these creaking and cracking sounds only to replace them with other similar problems. It's most disappointing in the car overall.......I don't think I'll buy another. Hard to say as I've driven avensis' since 1999 and always toyota before that since 1990, but thats the way I feel about it! Have a look at my earlier post on this. http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11120

Thanks Avensis Luna 03, it's a solace our common "luck" but I intend to speak out in the official retailers and technicians about the problem and demand to get it fixed anyway. You know, here, in Greece the firm bases its advertising campaign on "after sales" service and the satisfied customer and I suppose this happens all over Europe. Well it's time these people get dealt with similar problems and may they examine (I don't think I go far) a recall. I don't think it the garage would aggravate the problem or I'll risk it!
