Hi, I have just purchased my first Toyota, a 2004 rav 4 XT4 and i love it. The only thing i don't like is the VERY basic single cd player. I am considering buying a touch screen that is compatible with my iPhone 4s. I have had alook on eBay and there are all sorts out there, some with reversing cameras and even freeview. I was just wondering if anyone out there has fitted one of these units and can recommend a make to me as i am concerned about the build quality and even if it does actually do what it says on the tin. The link below is just one of the many i have been looking at. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! :disgust:

Sorry Colin, but I find the font you use very nice but it is difficult to read, hence I can't be bothered to read it. You're not a doctor by chance?

Welcome to the forum Colin,

Nice looking car! From a look at this unit, it seems almost too good to be true. There have been a lot of posts in the past on changing radio and nave units, and it would probably be worth a look at past entries. I think it almost certain that you would lose the computer functions, but then again, the fuel consumption, and stuff tends not to be too accurate anyway.

Maybe a trip to your local car audio shop may be in order, to see what's on offer, but if you do go ahead with this unit, then please let the forum know if it works ok. Certainly worth also having a look at the connections on the current unit, and comparing with the e bay, to see if they are compatible.

Best of luck,

Ainsley

That unit from eBay will not fit your Rav4 mate. It's for the next model up (the newer version). What you need is something like this ................

This is what I had in my Rav4, which is the same model as yours. I've just sold the Rav and removed this Pioneer unit this weekend so I'm putting it up for sale. The beauty of this is that I'm selling it with every cable and adaptor you need to fit it.

It is the Pioneer AVIC F900BT with sat nav, bluetooth, iPod and MP3 player connectivity, SD card player etc.

Hi Colin, looking for £250 including delivery, all the wiring, the adaptor plugs and the side blanking plates so there are no gaps around the new head unit (all the little extras add up to around £60 if you have to buy them seperately). I can even let you have a 'how to' guide on removing your old head unit and fitting the Pioneer one. I have plenty more photos etc if you are interested.

Hi Colin, sorry for the late reply I've just got in from picking up my new car. The head unit is about 4 years old and from what I've read the maps are updatable but it's expensive. Yes it syncs no problem with iPhone 4S (I have one myself). I will email you with more details.

  • 2 years later...

Hi

Have a look at head units by Extrons. I fitted (albeit DVD Headrests) to my RAV4 years ago which are still going strong.

Play every format of discs, accepts usb sd cards for films/music, have infrared headphones, individual remotes, play sound through car stereo tuning in with FM signal etc, etc.

I done a write up how to fit and posted on here years ago. Have a wee search.

Have a look at this link and take it from there

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XTRONS-6-95-Digital-Screen-Double-DIN-DVD-Player-Car-Stereo-GPS-Navigation-iPod-/181567936696?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a464ad8b8

Also have a look at Pioneer/Kenwood etc. A lot of double DIN head units available since a lot of new cars stereo's are integrated to dash.

I put a single din Sony head unit in mines years ago, with an adaptor plate.(10min to fit). Reason being that I can put the phone/ipod etc in the dookit with easy access.

Got sat nav seperate due to liking to have it in line of vision, plus free updates for life.

And buy a Rav 4 connector kit, about £15 and you will have it done in no time whatever you pick.
