Is it just ours or does the silver plastic MMT gear surround not fit correctly. This is our second MMT and the last one was the same so I guess they are all like that. There is a gap around it like it is not pushed down firmly. Anyone else noticed? Pity there was not an aftermarket chrome/alloy replacement.

I was surprised to see that even our MMT plastic cover sits rather loose . You can almost tilt it from side to side and my first impressions were that it was not pushed firmly in place but that is not so! I tried pushing it down but it refuses to budge. It is meant to be that way.

... but it is easy to remove when you need to get it off :)

Very poor design, although I am pleased to see that it is not just mine affected.

its normal, sort of a floating look :)

Ours had the floating trim from factory, but it soon went back and they adjusted the centre console and now it sits flush.

Thanks for that info - will get our dealer to do the same at next service, although not quite sure how they can adjust the centre consul . Maybe it's something I can do myself if that's all it is.

If your car is new, why not make use of the warranty? Why would you want try and fettle with it? :D

I think post #6 above must be a wind up as had a look today and there is no way to adjust anything. If it were meant to be flush I assume it would be. Will mention it though at next service as still got 3 year warranty left.

OK, I got tired of this issue and decided to remove it and see why it is floating and if it can be flush fitted. Firstly, it was dead easy to pull out (even a three year old could have done that) It is held by 3-4 plastic clips at the edges, so pull up along the edges, it popps off. Then look at the clips. They are slightly raised, which means that there is always going to be a small gap between this plate and what ever it is sitting on. Just realign the plate and push down gently, all clips will click in to place, nicely. The gap is still there. Case closed!

This was annoying me too, so I had a good look at the MMT gear surround and centre console and I discovered that the reason the surround doesn't sit flush to the centre console is because the console is positioned too far towards the floor of the car. If it can be raised slightly this will solve the problem and allow the gear surround to sit flush on top of the console.

I did this in my car by placing some washers between the bottom of the centre console and the thread it's retaining bolt screws in to, i.e. this one:-

This is what it looked like before I fitted the washers-

And this is what it looks like now:-
