Remote Fob Won't Lock The Car

Hi Guys,

I have got Yaris 2001

I just changed Battery on key remote fob.

now I can lock the car using remote but can not open it...

I can lock and open manually but using remote is much easier....

any help in this matter is appreciated..

Do you have a second remote you could try? Sometimes they can get out of synch. If not, the most likely culprit is the drivers door lock actuator. This locks the drivers door and sends a signal to the other doors and boot to lock them. It may be a question of the solenoid stcking, in need of adjustment, or it may need replacing. Are you able to carry out this test yourself?

Unfortunately I don't know how to carry out the tests you mentioned...

Probably I will have to take it to a mechanic (as dealers may charge extortion amount of money for this job)

An auto electrician would probably be a better bet.

Does the light come on when you press the button? The remote I got from eBay had a similar problem and it turned out the button had stopped working...

If the light does come on for both buttons, you could also try re-programming the remote central locking on the car; Instructions are in here somewhere - Should be able to find them with the search (Be clear - You want the programming instructions for the central locking and NOT the immobilizer!)

It will involve lots of door opening and closing!

Light flashes when I lock the car, but it does not do any thing when I press the unlock button...

Do you think its the unlock button which has gone faulty?

It does seem that may be the cause if the other one works :(

You could try wiggling the button while it's out of the key to see if that helps.

I hope it isn't that as it's a bit of a pain to get it sorted; Mr T will try and charge you for a new one, and unless you're lucky and live near someone who repairs such things you'll have to send it off which is always a bit of a worry!

The guy I bought my fob off on eBay does repairs so if you want I can dig up his details but the turnaround could be around a week...

Another possibility is the new Battery is a dud or has a bad contact; The remotes act weird when they don't get enough volts. Try reseating it or putting in another one.

Out of curiosity, have you tried it at another location?

Sounds a bit strange, but I have had times where I've gone somewhere and had the opposite problem (Couldn't lock the car remotely, light didn't blink) but then when I drove somewhere else it started working again!

I tried taking the fob apart and tried operating... no use :(

I also tried reprogramming the central locking system (as suggested previously)... everything went well... procedure ends with all doors locking and unlocking automatic...

After finishing re-programming, when I try the Unlock key nothing happens

I think I will have to go with your final suggestion and get the fob replaced...
