Intermittent Noise On Breaking

Hi,

Basically I don't know how to explain this but I'll try.

It's normally on the way home from work I notice it - not going which I think people would agree is odd. If I'm breaking down from 70 I don't notice any issues at all.

When I get to a bit on my commute home it's stop / start traffic. After around 28 miles of driving I hit a spot where I'm going <5MPH for around 1/4 of a mile on and off. Then when I press the break I notice a single knocking sound from somewhere underneath and maybe a little behind the drivers position (I do have a recording but its a 60MB mov file at present so looking to convert it tomorrow). It knocks once and won't do it until I release and then re-apply the brake.

It doesn't seem to affect breaking - the brakes seem to work fine. But it's just that I don't hear it breaking from other speeds and once it's started it's then with me for the way home happening at 30MPH.

I know it sounds very, very odd but, on a weird hope, does anyone have any idea of what it could be, cost to fix, etc?

Many thanks for at least reading this bizarre post!

Added the MP3 - the noise is 36/37 seconds in (sorry for this) and happens again a second or two afterwards (released and reapplied the brakes).

Thanks!

When were your brakes last changed?? it might be worth checking your brake calliper, in particular the slider pins, and make sure the bolts are on tight and its on firmly etc and also have a good look at everything in the wheel well. Could also be brake pads knocking maybe?? Just throwing a couple of suggestions out there but thats where i would start as it costs nothing to check

I had a similar problem on my T25 in that there was a sort of rattle when going over speed bumps etc but not while actually braking. It turned out to be the caliper slide bolts were worn on the front. To check it you'll need to create some slack on the pads by pushing them back and then see if there's any "in towards the engine" or "out towards you" movement on the caliper. If you need new bolts beware they're expensive and the pack only contains two. Ie enough for one caliper not both.

Brakes were changed a few months ago - both front and back (can't remember if it was just pads though I'll check).

Guess it's worth having them looked at then! I'll get it booked in tomorrow.

I would say pads knocking or sliders, but just my opinion from what you described
