Are Pre And Post Oxygen Sensor Interchangeable?

Just found the below photo on this forum showing the location of bank 1 and 2 sensors. I have followed the toyota Avensis diagram and changed bank 2 sensor 2 as that was the fault code that kept coming up. But looking at this photo it appears as though the diagram showed the sensors in opposite order and I have actually ended up changing bank 2 sensor 1.

In order to save the cost of a new sensor (as i have an extra pre O2 sensor now) I am trying to find out if I can cut the pre 02 sensor off and attach it to the post 02 sensor wires. All the wires are matching colours for both sensors but I am not sure if they are both capable of carrying out the same tasks?

Also as bank 2 sensor 1 is further down the engine bay past the cats, what would be the best way to access this?

As always any help is appreciated

They usually are interchangeable

As long as they are same type and number of wires

Im guessing you have the most common 4 wire zirconia sensors

2 white wires for heater circuit

Grey and black wires for signal and ground

Sildering is difficult due to silver wiring and butt connectors are usually used.

Ive taken sensors from forklifts and used them on cars ok

Thanks for the reply. I remember you mentioned this on another thread and that's what gave me the idea. Someone on the rav 4 forum has posted that the pre and post sensors have different parameters so they cannot be used vice versa.
