Camry Oil Dipstick Sheared Off

I have a 1998 Camry, 2.2 liter engine. I just replaced oil dipstick this past weekend for the second time. On both occasions I have make sure that the part number was correct and that the dipstick was inserted correctly. However, this is the second time in two years that something in the engine has sheared off the last inch of the dipstick. The Toyota dealer nor any mechanic that I have talked to has ever seen this happen before. The nearest dealer wants $300 to remove and reseal the oil pan and look for metal in the pan. This does not cover the cost of any repairs. The car runs fine with no other apparent problems. I wanted to know if anyone here has ever seen this problem or knows of a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't mind if anyone replies directly to me via email, at athrottlejockey@hotmail.com.
