Avensis Auto Box

Hi all

I'm looking to buy a 03 onwards (depending on price) T spirit 2 ltr. As they seem pretty scarce in my price range I'm considering auto as well as manual to improve my choices.

Any issues with the auto boxes or things to look out for?

I think I would have preffered an auto as its so much more comfortable especially driving around town. I was looking at a few and did read up on the net for any issues. Havent read of any major problems although expect it to be a little heavier on fuel.

I have owned about 9 cars now with auto boxes and never had any trouble at all. Compared with manuals and clutch adjustments and a number of clutch replacements and potential to abuse manual gearboxes I have a strong belief that auto is far more reliable than manual. Had an auto Corolla for many years with big mileage and no problem and current Avensis the same. Very few people go back to manual change once they have experienced the benefits of automatics. Many trucks are now autos incidentaly. Yes - expect a couple of mpg less with an auto.
