Fuel Economy Low? What Do You Get?

I have a 2004 diesel avensis T-Spirit. 147k.

On the computer it gives me around 47/48 mixed motorway mpg.(I know these are not accurate)

around town 45/46 mpg.

My dad has been using mine for a few days since his has been off the road for a few days.

and says his vectra 1.9 cdti 8v is much more better on diesel.

Its recently had a full service air.oil, fuel filters & 5w 30 oil, all genuine Toyota parts.

EGR was cleaned not long ago.

I always use BP fuel.

on a full tank I usually get 430/450 miles from a full tank.

How many miles do you guys get on a full/half tank of fuel.

Is there anything else I can do to get more miles out of my full tank.

I never check the trip because its not always accurate but I have a 2 litre petrol which I drive in town and usually through traffic in London. I get around 330 - 340 on a full tank.

Is your dads vectra a manual or auto?

My brothers old company car was a 1.9 cdti manual Vectra and I must admit the mpg for town driving were brilliant. Also I found the clutch on the diesel Vectra quite light when compared with similar cars.

My 1998 1.8 leanburn on last fill could only get in 52 litres after doing 403 miles of mixed driving over 3 weeks. I usually average 380 miles and fill close to 50 litres.

I zero the trip counter at every fill up. The fuel gauge is just around 1/4 mark.

Your mpg is similar to mine on a 2006 2.2D4D. One of the biggest factors at play is tyres. Condition, quality and pressures are critical. I just put Bridgestone T001's on and have jumped up to 55mpg on motorways without even trying.

My Avensis T180 does about 40 - 43 mpg combined, depends on traffic and i have poor quality "no name" tires :driving:

my 2.2 D4D generally averaged ~42mpg in mixed motoring in Winter or ~45mpg in summer. Long motorway runs could see middle 50s & I wasn't doing 60mph ;) ...

My avensis 2.0 D-4D does 48/54 depending on driving conditions etc; I must say tyre pressure is critical & must be checked every week or so. Never trust pressure gauges at filling station as I have found they are always out , carrie a pencil type telescopic one in your car then adjust as required.

I average 43 to 44 combined 2.2d. On a motorway run normally mid 50s. I also keep an eye on tyre pressures.

2008 Avensis 2.0 D4D - I average around 47mpg on the commute to work and back which is roughly 50% town and 50% dual carrigeway. On a long motorway run at a steady 70mph with the A/C off i've seen 60mpg.

The most I have got out of one tank is 700miles going to work and back and there was still a couple of litres in the tank when I filled up.

my 2004 D-4D gets about 60-65mpg .. mostly motorway, although a lot of it stuck in M25 queues, good quality tyres make a good difference IMO.

I'm getting about 40-43 mpg around town and on a run on motorway I'm getting 53 mpg it was lower at 36 mpg a few weeks ago until I changed the oil and filter ! It hadn't been changed for about 3 years I'm due to put some of that bg---- diesel cleaner through it soon
