Scratched Windscreen

Someone has scratched my front windscreen from top to bottom in “Zone A”
UK MOT. Does anyone know if this a MOT test failure? The perpetrator
wins as I am really pead-off. I understand you cannot remove
scratches, some say you can, but suffer smudging in the area and at
night can be more of a problem. Any thoughts welcome.

Trying to lift my chin..... JC

Just ask at a MOT station their opinion if the scratch is not bothering you while driving.

(do you have Windscreen Cover & a £70 excess if the Windscreen should be getting chipped while driving?)

I have had an iQ screen replaced because of the damage that happened from Sharp Sand blowing in a gale and

leaving it looking like stars while driving with bright sun shinning through the tint.

Same thing as happened with a Hyundai which had even softer and easily pockmarked glass.

night driving was not a problem, just in bright sunlight..

Its pretty soft tinted glass on the Toyotas and easily scratched on the exterior.

(Plain clear glass is easy to polish out with Jewelers Rouge or the likes.)

I agree, thanks for that David, great info. The screen on our car has a few deep stone chips and some light scratching in other areas, but not from wipers I think. Possibly as George says, from sand. The car was owned by someone living in the south, near to the coast, so maybe sand is the culprit. On a previous car I had, a Cavalier 2000GSi, the screen was shocking. It had done a lot of motorway miles too, so maybe the previous owner of our iQ had a regular motorway drive too? Either way, I'm going to see about the screen repair kits and the polish.

Thank you for your comments.

I have looked at a few adverts for screen scratch repairs. I am a little suspicious of some of the claims.
First hand experience from someone who has tried one on the IQ would be great.

I understand the glass is a bit special.

Cheers
