Just bought a tidy looking 3 door VVT-I with 46k on the clock for my missus, is there anything I need to be looking closely at?

Nope...nuttin.....nada....nowt.

Due to recent experience of wife (no.....), have a wee squint at inside face of brake discs......very perishable. Make sure running on Iridium plugs (car would normally tell you by running rough....) Otherwise clean oil will see it see you off this mortal coil......enjoy.

As Kev says the back brakes are prone to corrosion and as I have found out, they don't take kindly to being laid up for lengthy periods and will seize up.

Make sure that the exhaust is sound as Toyota replacements can be pricey, and I was told that the VVTi eats O2 sensors but so far, touch wood, I haven't had any problems with mine. Good dependable motors, and if looked after will run forever.

Thinking about it, if laying up for any length of time, be worth keeping the car up on axle stands (with or without wheels on) so you can go in and rotate the wheel every so often and also leave the handbrake off if parked up for even just a few days (found this on both our Suzuki swift and also an MR2 last week)
