Anyone test driven new rolla verso?

I like the design ..looks more carlike than an MPV.

Seats 7 and is very practicle for a larger family.

Anyone thinking of one?

i just have to say that i am impressed - it looks awesome, inside and out... it also has an wheelbase longer than Avensis, so it is very roomy...

I too have sat in one of the new Versos. It's spectacularly roomy and very nicely finished. But I haven't yet driven one. The engine options in the UK are the 1.6 and 1.8 petrols, and the 2.0 D-4D diesel. All the reviews I've read so far find all three engines in the range to be significantly underpowered considering the extra 240kg weight of the Verso over the Corolla hatch. Hence the only sensible recommendation seems to be the D-4D with its extra torque.

However, I want an auto shifter, but the auto box only comes with the 1.8 petrol engine which, again, is reported as needing to be driven very hard in order to get it to move along comfortably when loaded with folk, which is likely to be often.

I'm not looking for a 'hot MPV'-- just something safe, and a sluggish engine can be a significant safety concern when overtaking or pulling away into busy traffic on today's roads, particularly when loaded with kids.

I too am wondering whether anybody else has yet had the opportunity to drive one and is able to comment on the responsiveness of the engines currently available? I shall do so as soon as my dealer has a test car available and will report my findings here.

And what, I wonder, is the likelihood of Toyota placing a more responsive engine in the Verso in the future? After all, their marketing literture makes a point of the design emphasizing the vehicles sporting presence. There's no denying it looks the business. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a mere lame sheep in wolfs clothing, in which case it might disappear as fast as its predecessor.
