Parts Info - Online

My local Toyota parts-man recommended this yesterday . . .

www.toyodiy.com

It's intended for those who wish to service/repair their own vehicles, and contains essentially all the same parts diagrams (and prices) that T.parts counters use. Advice is to check part numbers (for supercession) and prices before ordering through the usual channels. It covers all models, all years, and geographical variations.

To operate, simply input your VIN.

Its been around for some time Chris but I stopped using it when Toyota made them withdraw the parts drawings. It is good for finding vehicle info from the VIN No though.

I'm getting confused about this. As Anch says it states on the website that the diagrams were removed. A few weeks ago they were doing some kind of a promo where if you registered access to the diagrams was included. That seems to have stopped and I can't find any reference to diagrams anymore.

Mods - maybe worth having a pinned to Rav4 stuff on the net? This site and toyota-tech.eu have been in my bookmarks for some years. Could also list other Rav4 forums such as the australian and the american ones.

The drawings were removed

"December 6, 2009

The diagrams are no longer available on this site per demands of Toyota Motor Sales Inc."

Yes, that what it says, 2009 - drawings removed. But there they are - just go onto the site and see.

Not sure what the background legals/copyright might be, but the info is really useful all the same.

In any case, if it makes it easier to access/order genuine Toyota parts, this has to be good for the parent company.

Presumably.

Or...do you know different?

I am not sure what you are looking at to get the illustrations.......They do not appear on the site on my machine since 2009 - 2010

Just a bit surprised that a Toyota employee recommended the site to you as there is a clear disclaimer:

"The "Toyota" name and logotype, Toyota logos, model names and model logos and logotypes are trademarks or registered trademark of Toyota Motor Corporation or its affiliated companies in the United States and other countries. All other designated trademarks and brands are the property of their respective owners. ToyoDIY.com is independent of Toyota Motor Corporation and is not affiliated with nor sponsored, authorised, approved, or endorsed by Toyota Motor Corporation or its affiliated companies in any way."

Use the site at your own risk! ;)

There is an alternative site which still shows the parts diagrams

http://www.japan-parts.eu/

it identified my RAV4 from the vin number and ive also used it for lexus diagrams as well.

it gives a small description of the part when you click on the part number and you can do a part number search from the home screen, handy for finding out what lexus parts are used on Toyotas so you don't have to pay the Badge premium.

Interesting comments, which is what I suspected.

Have had a chance this morning to compare the two sites (toyodiy and japan-parts), and basically they both provide the same information. I haven't registered on the toyo site, but simply gone in on the basic web address (www.toyodiy.com). All the parts diagrams, plus descriptions and a guide price appear.

The illustrations on the toyo site are identical to those on the japan-parts site. My guess is that this site, too, is nothing to do with Toyota (although the colour scheme gives the impression otherwise).

I share your surprise that a Toyota employee would recommend such a site, particularly if there are legals going on. I have always been, and professionally too, a defender of intellectual property rights (music, print, designs...) and therefore very much against pirating, unauthorised copying, etc., and certainly for commercial purposes. In this particular case, it would be of great value if Toyota themselves were to make this information available, or to authorise a third party to handle it for them. After all, most of such a site's use would be preparation for ordering parts over a Toyota parts counter.

Not sure what you are clicking on but they are not available to me. At the bottom of the parts list is something that says to view the image click here and then it tells me to become a club member to view them.

Thanks for that. I've been after a decent diagram of the exhaust system to identify a clamp dangling on the front pipe. Looks like it was the front clamp for the exhaust shield that went down the road years ago. A standard print from the webpage doesn't show the image but it's easily overcome.

Hi Paul,

I'm just clicking on www.toyodiy.com, then entering my VIN, and everything is there. I am not registered, just "visiting".

Odd. If it stops working, I'll flag it up.
