Weird Noises When Braking In The Morning

So my 2010 Rav4 has 30k miles on it. I have not open up the wheels to look at the brakes yet, I will do this Saturday.

What I've noticed for a week now is that when braking in the morning, my brakes make noises like when you drive your car over a bunch of large empty paper boxes, not screeching noises.

Is this because cold brakes on toyota make noises like that?

I think I know what you mean; but wouldn't know how to describe the sound at all.

But indeed: every morning when backing out of my driveway, you can really hear the brakes; and I've always figured it was because they were cold.

I don't suppose that you have actually driven over some large empty paper boxes? That would do it.............

...every morning when backing out of my driveway, you can really hear the brakes; and I've always figured it was because they were cold.

It's normal for steel brake discs to form a thin layer of "rust" overnight, especially in warm/damp air. This polishes off after the first few applications of the brakes. Leave a car for a week, and you'll really see it.

R the brake pads worn out 30000miles ? I had a stuck Caliper on mine ( front drivers side 1 pad now has more wear than the other now )

I recently bought a large stacking tool box which came in a massive cardboard box. I spread the box over the garage floor as it is lovely to lie on when working on a car. My car makes the same noise as yours every morning when I pull it out of the garage.
