4.2 (2005) Reversing Camera

Hi Y'all

Just landed myself a 2005 XT-R and would like to swap out the stock stereo and replace with a Sat Nav / Reversing camera type arrangement.

I've had a search around the forum and found quite a bit of info - but typically, can't find an answer to my problem. Closest is this fella : http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/72649-43-maintenance-tip-xt5-rear-view-camera-installation/

I would prefer not to have to drill the car to fit, and like the guys in the above forum thought one of these would be a good idea (there's about a gazillion on ebay):

Hardly any of them specify a year, and the ones that do AND in the forum topic, mention was made of 2006 onwards.

Anyone know if these will fit a 2005 rav?

cheers

WD

This might be interesting for you; it's a camera that simply screws into the existing holes of your license plate. You can also find these all over ebay; I can look up the brand if you want.

G'day Blue

I did see those, but I wasn't sure as the 2005 number plate is on the left corner on the back of the Rav - wondering if my reversing image would be squiffed off centre?

What ya reckon?

G'day to you too!

And yes that's indeed also what kind of concerns me.. Maybe you could try taping a webcam or so to the license plate & checking its output?

Then again a webcam won't have a view as wide as a proper reversing camera.. Worth a shot though!

Good plan - or I may grab one anyway - as they are quite cheap - and see how it works out.

(need to get the Head unit first anyway!)

Very true, it's worth a try for the money. What head unit are you planning on buying?

I decided to just put an older Android tablet in my '01 RAV4, not very pretty but it does the job very well.

Thinking along the lines of one of the Kenwood DNX series.

I have an external Tom Tom - but I'd rather have something intergral in the Car, plus I only listen to iPod, so the CD / Radio unit has got to go anyway

Look great! If I had the money I'd probably put one of the Kenwood head units with navigation in my RAV; but then the head unit would almost be worth as much as the car haha.

Yeah - there is that, but I'm planning on keeping this for the next 5 years minimum, so decent audio is essential.

Though mines a 2005 - its only done 28,000 miles and is in tip top condition.

That's low on miles! RAV's are great cars though, will last you for ages.

Yeah - only one owner before me - older chap, recently retired, obviously didn't abuse it.
