2012 Avensis Diesel - A Good Buy?

Guys

Got my eye on a (May) 2012 TR diesel Avensis through a main dealer (management car with just 6k mileage): immaculate condition. Disks front and rear a bit rusty though which indicates that the car has been standing for some time.

Does anyone know if this model qualifies for the £35 road tax and is there anything I should be concerned about buying a diesel form Mr T (I currently drive a 2007 petrol Avensis from the same dealer which hasn't missed a beat since I bought it in 2008).

Cheers

Go for it, sounds great, if its a 2.0d £30... 2.2d-£140

Don`t worry about the discs they can go surface rusty overnight

Had the same thoughts myself, but wondered if it has the same power as the 2.0 d4d 2010 diesel, as the new 2012 gives more MPG and less emissions etc?? Did you buy the car Galad, would be interested in what you think of it.

Was too late - went back to take a closer look only to see the SOLD sign up! There will be others - I can wait.

Bummer. But as you say, these are cars not miracles, another one will be along shortly.

  • 2 weeks later...

Is there anyone out there who has a 2012 or 2013 Avensis diesel and can tell me if the service book states that the diesel particulate filter should be replaced at or around the 60k service? I'm reluctant to but a used diesel with more than 10k on the clock if I end up cancelling out all the fuel economy and low road tax on an expensive repair 4/5 years down the track. My neighbour's Seat Leon has to have the DPF changed at 50k but the dealer failed to point this out when he bought the car with 40k miles.

Theres no way a DPF is replaced at such low mileage as a service item

Or take the dpf off the car and smash its innards out and put it back on the car job done no dpf swopping. bish bosh.

According to Honest John's car reviews DPFs of 2.0 litre Seat diesels can fail after about 5 years and about 50,000 miles.

Anything can go wrong anytime but as I said `not as a service item at such a low mileage`
