Obviously not the ground clearance of a true offroader but great in mud and snow. I'd say the Rav handled itself "better" in the last lot of snow than my LR did.

How do mate.

Not to sure about off roading but the Rav4 is brilliant in the snow!!

I bought my Rav4 (4.2) so that I would have a better chance of not being restricted/stranded during our worsening winter weather. Coming out of a 3 series I expected the Rav to be a much safer drive in adverse conditions but I have to say I was astonished at how good it was at handling the last lot of snow fall. It literally did not miss a beat through snowcovered untreated country roads (it is wearing M+S rated rubber btw).

With regard to offroading, as Dave says above, ground clearance will scupper any plans you may have for serious off roading but thats not what it was designed for. If my experience is anything to go by, you can expect your Rav to be able to deal with the worst of what the UK weather can throw at us. In my eyes that makes it a capable real world 4x4.

interesting they dont sound bad at all offroad however ill be doing a few mods to mine as iv done to my last couple of 4x4s

iv already looking at 50mm lift spacers,at tyres side steps ect i actually spet over 8k on mods for my shogun in 5 years of onership although iv not that kind of money now the rav will be getting some modding 1st thing those exterior trims and bumpers will be getting colour coded to match the rest ,

hoping to do abit of camping this year so i hope the rav can make up the north york moors were we go camping

I think they do have the deserved reputation of being one of the best 4x4s in the snow.
I got right through the snow laiden Langdale valley road from Ambleside early this January with ease, and didn't see another car on the road..
Drew the line at trying Hardknott Pass that would have pushing my luck a bit.

Nah, Mickster......it gets the name "softroader" for a reason. As far as the AT tyres are concerned, get yursellf some industrial ear defenders for normal road use, mate......and welcome aboard the nub of clutters.

Big Kev.

You'll see some pretty impressive stuff on there if you spend the time and go hunting.

Oh and welcome to the club. As That Kev said, we really are a bunch of nutters... especially Kev....Get stuck into the banter and ye'll be grand!

You probably know but your car is permanent 4x4. Agree with Kev, off road tyres are noisy, I just put road Michelins on the front of mine, they run well on loose gravel, and the noise levels are low.

But welcome to the forum, and enjoy the new car! Ainsley

Waste Vegetable Oil

I think the major conclusion on here is that you should run the car on Premium Diesel unless you want to have to clean the EGR valve etc on a very frequent basis.

blank off the egr then it won't need cleaning.
