Hi chaps,

Thinking of putting a K&N filter int he Rav and was wondering if it is imperative to oil the filter before installing?

If so do they pose any problems for sensors further down the line?

I wouldn't bother. Stick with original Toyota. You won't notice any difference.

Apart from more noise with the K&N fitted.........

New K&N filters are already oiled so you really shouldn't oil them any more, but TBH the performance difference isn't that noticeable and the Toyota one does a better job of filtering the air.

Thanks Cyler.

It was was just a thought. Getting a bit of a ' I want to do something to the Rav ' feeling!

Personally I wouldn't use any oiled air filter..they have been known to affect the MAF sensor.

As said stick with the OEM.

You need to have a word with Hoovie. He's the 4.2 Pimpmeister.

Can anyone recommend a code reader and a Bluetooth/wireless scanner for iPhone...

Have been looking at the Creader 6 for the code reader

Sorry for bolting this onto this thread

I have a K&N it does make more noise but I do get more MPG and it picks up better but the main reason I have only ever bought this one filter I have run this 4.3 since 2006 with no problems from using the K&N but saved a load of cash

I tried one and ended up giving the ruddy thing away. It sounded like a harrier jump jet when it wasn't resonating.

.....and the sudden presence of audible turbo whistle eventually gets on yer upper abdomen.

I had an annoying vibration as I went through the gears and after removing the K&N and replacing with a genuine Toyota one the noise dissapeared....

All good valid points, I actually put a bit more oil on it, made it better, no problems with oil getting into air intake, plus it automatically thows oil in every time the EGR opens, I like the whistle, plus I use hypoid 90's when I re-oil it, after time you get used to it,
