Yaris

Hiya

My wife's 2003 Yaris has a small black 'Made in Japan' sticker on top rht of windscreen. It also has a sticker saying, 'remember to drive on the left' , which seems a funny thing to put on a UK car. I have just bought the car from a Toyota dealer. Can anyone tell me if all Yaris's are made in Japan? I heard some of the early ones are made in France. Is that true? Cheers guys.

Hi matrixsenior

And welcome to the club :group-cuddles: Yes you are right. Some of the yaris say from 2003 September reg are indeed made in France. The jap versions have got a little black sticker on the wind screen saying made in japan. So now all current yaris been made are now made in France i think?

I think all the Yaris are made in France now except for the T Sport which is made in Japan, not too sure though...

But earlier models there were the Jap and France ones

Kenny

i think the VIN number would tell where its made from, if it starts with J then its Japan and i dunno the letter which represents its made in france!!

All early Yaris were built in Japan. French plant came on stream in 2001 (cars) 2002 (engines). Verso models are still built in Japan.

Valenciennes Vehicle Production :

Yaris 3 and 5 door

Engine Assembly :

1.0l. VVT-i gasoline engine (from April 2002)

1.3l VVT-i gasoline engine (from July 2002)

1.4l diesel D-4D engine (from beginning of 2003)

(NB some eninge parts machined in UK)

Forecast (Vehicle production):

210,000 vehicles per year (3rd Shift starts in Spring 2004)

Forecast (engine assembly):

210,000 engines (in 2004) : gasoline and diesel

However, although the intention is to build as many cars as close to market as possible, Yaris is still in relative short supply in Europe (we can't get enough of 'em) so some supply may come in from Japan too.

I got my Yaris in December, the dealer actually used the fact that the current batch were in Japan as a selling point!

A clever way of finding where your Yaris is made: (read it in antoher post)

Open the top glove box and very gently tap it down.

If it closes by itself its a Jap model otherwise you've got a Frenchy :P

Mines a frenchie!

Kinda strange if you think about it as my blokes 206 is a French car, built in the UK whereas mine is a Japanese car built in France! You would think they would be built in the country of origin, well thats what common-sense would tell you anyways!! :D

I'd much rather have a Jap car made in France than a French car made in Britain though (sorry babe if your reading this!! :P )

it was registered on the 2nd half of 2002, does not mean it was built then
