Poor Me

Hey, my blue baby-- 1988 celica(auto) stalls when I am waiting at red lights or stop signs. :(

I also realized that if I drove my car everyday, it was fine; but if I left it there for more than couple of days, it would stall.

One day it stalled when I was waiting to make a left turn, and it wouldn't even restart. I pushed the car into a parking lot and called the tow truck and when it got there my car ran smoothly again! :unsure:

Eventually it broke down and the dealer found out that the clutch plate and the starter were bad. However,after changing them, my car still stalls. :crybaby:

I love my blue baby, but the dealer tried 4 times already and they couldn't find the problem!!!

I had a similar problem out of my 87. My problem was a vacuum leak. My air intake hose was cracked and I didn't know it until I took it off. This caused it to run horrible under 1500 RPMs. I would check for a vacuum leak and also check the EFI relay in the relay box by the Battery. This relay controls the fuel injection system and it being bad could cause the car to not start back up immediately. Just keep this in mind:

There's only 3 things that could cause a car not to run;

1) No spark

2) No fuel

3) No air

I wouldn't be able to tell you exactly what's wrong without looking at the car, but I do know that the older 3S-FE engines were notorious for vacuum leaks. I hope this gets you off to a good start. Good luck!

:huh: huh?...Problem with the clutchplate & you say its an auto...? you probably mean flywheel I presume :D

My cabby auto had similiar probs so I totally stripped down & reassambled the intake side & now it runs ok.Probably a vac leak somewhere.
