Tailgate / Door Handle Removal

Hi all,

Does anyone know how to remove the handle from the tailgate ??

We've done a search, but couldn't find anything definite..

We have managed to remove everything else from the tailgate, it's just the handle which is puzzling us...

Thanks.. :)

Some people will go to great lengths to stop crime!

There is one bolt inside the door and the other is behind that little black plug on the end of the door - on the side where the catch is.

The question has to be asked.....................why?

You will probably laugh, or think I'm mad, if I tell you... :)

Interesting idea... but... no. :)

Got me thinking though.. maybe install the powered open/close function ?

And the real reason for us wanting to remove the handle, is to install it on the new tailgate which has the spare wheel option...

And if I have done it correctly, work in progress picture below..

Think you could start a small business doing this Liz. Could prove quite popular...........

And you're not mad. Others have also considered this conversion but I think you may be the first.

Are you documenting the work?

Will you be fitting a red light to the door edge whilst you have it stripped out so that you can legally keep the fully opening jack strap?

I did the research, but I must confess that it's not actually me doing the work.. but the men in the family ( hubby, son, & father-in-law ) so I could ask them.. ;)

I have taken photos as things have progressed, as well as supplying endless cups of coffee & tea..

The photos are in my gallery... but can also document if people are interested.. :)

Yes, I have found a round red led light which fits an existing hole in the edge of the door...

I wanted to do something, but keep it subtle... not lit up like a Christmas tree.. :) :)

Sorry Don, not got any pictures of the led light mod yet... but when I have, I will post them up..

There are some other pictures in my gallery for the tailgate change..

I could post some of them in this thread if that's better for everyone.. :)

Brilliant post.....thus far a lady has been asked if she will be fitting a red light, and Gus has asked me for a date.....then Davrav refers to fully extending jack strap....this forum rocks !!!

Ok, can do... :)

Shall I start a new thread, with a better title, and type my notes into that ? or just continue on this one ?

I did wonder if someone will ask how much it's costing...:eek: :)
