Don't see the point of having a star system if nobody ever gets them.

Will you be fitting a red light to the door edge whilst you have it stripped out so that you can legally keep the fully opening jack strap?

This is what it looks like... more details later.

Nice job Liz.

I'm guessing it's wired to the boot light in the rear door. I was going to do this when I did the boot light mod but couldn't find a suitable fitting for that grommet hole at the time. Will be following your example when you post details of the part and source.

It's a cracking solution and better than the reflective tape but not strictly legal I'm afraid unless the light is E marked. I bought a very similar LED light in the USA for the same reason and although it might well get fitted, it won't be legal as there is no E mark to be seen.

Thank you... coz your such a great guy, and my neighbour, I'll pass on the details now... :)

Yes wired into boot light... thought that was better than side lights...

The light is a tad too small but a rubber grommet ring makes it a snug fit..

I got the light from here :

The gromment we had already, but I will try and find out sizes etc..

And another pic to show grommet...

Still a nice idea Liz. It might not be legal but it is dead practical.

Frankly, in these EU-jobsworth-health & safety days, you're bound to have done something illegal with your car without even noticing.

I find it laughable that my driver's floor mat ends up in the boot at every MOT in case it should obstruct the pedals - despite the fact that you'd have to roll it up, secure it with cable ties and forceably jam it under the brake in order to have that effect.

Liz's solution is neat, tidy and emminently practical. Good for her, I say, E-marks not withstanding!

You will probably find there are 50 pages of legislative requirements for a tail light in the Type Approval manual. It won't just be position but colour, intensity, viewing angle, provision of back up if a bulb fails and several more.

There is no doubt a department looking at the environmental aspects of whether the lamp can be recycled and just how much power/fuel it consumes before it even goes near an E mark stamp let alone a vehicle.

It has SAE DOT P2PC 06 printed on it...

Not sure what it means though..:unsure:

Means its registered in the US as a rear marker light. It is probably designed to be used on the back of trailers or semi-trailers as our US friends would say. Made in China by the KL group.
