The T3-S had a built in sat nav (maybe other models too?). It had a nice lady telling you where to turn, and it used one of the twin trip meter displays in the upper centre of the dash as a low-res/low-tech/monochrome screen. If you check the buttons on yours you should find that the top row relate to the trip settings, and the bottom row related to the sat nav (or maybe the opposite way around, I can't remember). The DVD unit for it was under the passenger seat. TBH although it worked ok it looked pretty naff, and you couldn't set it while travelling. An updated disc from Toyota is a couple of hundred quid.

Personally I'd get a TomTom or something instead.

Hi!

The system that used one of the twin trip meter displays in the upper centre of the dash was called "TNS 310" if I'm not mistaken.

There was also a very rare Navigation with a flip up power lcd multicolor screen operated by a separate remote control. Here you can see it on the pictures (actually I have the screen and the remote control for sale if anyone interested).

And depending on your time and of course your budget, you can upgrade to any factory Navigation as well (maybe some extra wiring needed but nothing hard). I did the same, I installed a TNS 510 into my '05 Avensis (map on SD card, aux, usb and all those goodies + I attached a backup camera to it as well).

If someone is not used to removing the centre console, here is what you may find behind the regarding wiring. Not a nice view to see your car looking like that, I know. :flowers:

The two types of displays your car can have (2003-2006 versions).

Hi Keith,

I'm glad if I could help.

If you are interested I can arrange shipment to the UK, I'm in Hungary. But I only have the multicolor screen and the remote control left.

With this multicolor screen Navigation version you have to be careful, the regular DVD drivers on sale on e-bay won't work with it, you need the one with part number "86841-" - which was fitted in several Lexus models as well and rarely but can be found on e-bay for around £400. But still you would need some extra wiring (part number "82141-") which is not a cheap one, ordered from your Toyota salesman it would be around £1200 factory brand new and a good 6-7 hours to change the complete wiring in your Avensis.

So not the cheapest way to build up a factory system...

My problem with the split display screen it's too small, but that complete TNS 310 system can be bought used on e-bay much more cheaper.

Or if you want to stick with the original Toyota TNS systems my advice is to look for a TNS 700 or the TNS 510 I have (they can play mp3 files and can hook up with an installed backup camera).

Cheers

How much are you looking for the old sat nav? The new one looks well smart. Does it work with the existing antenna?

The GPS antenna is under the display unit on top of the centre console. If your car did not have a factory Nav the only extra wiring needed would be from the speedo to the TNS system to get a speed signal, and of course a mounting bracket for the Navigation unit as the TNS 510 was not available with the T25 back in those days. And yes, it's much smarter, that's why the change was made.

From the old nav unit I only have the remote control and the multicolor screen left, so unless you don't have a GPS antenna, a DVD driver and other wiring you would not be able to use it just by purchasing those 2 items.

Checking e-bay I would think £350 would be a reasonable price for both as I just saw a remote control on sale for more than £150 (just for the remote! ...).

But of course if you would be interested I'm sure we could get into an agreement, but I have to make you aware again that I only have the lcd screen and the remote control - with this two items you won't be having a working Nav system yet.
