Chip Tuning Box?

Hi,

I'm owner of a RAV4 D4D year 2010 (150 BHP - manual gear), my trips are weekly long distance (500 km.) and I drive at about 140 km/h (2500-2600 rpm.) on motorway.

Someone can help me choose a chip tuning box? My goal is the compsumption reduction and not the performance increasing:

Sorry for my english, I'm writing from Italy.

have a nice day

I have the Lindop tuning box on My T180.. I fitted it also for the economy gains at which it is so good it must have paid for its self easily ! Drive is also greatly improved with huge improvements in the power delivery and the power curve is linear and just so strong meaning less downchanges in gears for quick smooth overtaking.. Highly recommended !!

Hi Gio and welcome to The Club,

Got to agree that the Lindop Chip Kit is the way to go. Only sold mine as changed my car last year to SR Automatic.

Please, please avoid the eBay and general bolt on merda available on the Internet.....they will only disappoint and cause limp mode or worse.

Good Luck,

Big Kev

Haha Big min..not ex either btw.

The chip unit itself fits nice and snug between the ECU and the air box, with no need for any fixings.

The whole fitting took about 10 mins and luckily for me is pretty well idiot proof.

Zip tying the wiring is the hardest part ;~)

The T180 kit is much easier to fit than the 150bhp version I believe.

Definite improvement of around 4mpg,but the best bit is the smooth power delivery, and the fewer gear changes making it almost like driving an automatic.

I am also considering Kingo's chip this new engine does not seem as responsive as my old one. Have had it checked out and there was a split air intake pipe, the repair of which improved things.

Dragging my caravan last week, some hills where not as easily negotiated as previously.

Will check with the Insurance company tomorrow, if the premium increase is reasonable, will order the chip.

See made my mind while typing this

Insurance Company said no increase in premium so I have now ordered the Lindop chip this morning. Will report back on findings

I am new to the RAV4 club having just bought a 4.4 Invincible D Cat 4WD Auto in late April. Not entirely new to TOC though because I had an Avensis T180 prior to this.

I probably know what the answer will be but I will ask anyway...here goes :driving:

Would fitting a Lindop chip affect the warranty and would it be just the engine management and injector side of things or the complete engineor car? Obviously a 5 year warranty is not to be given up lightly!.

Positively do not do it on a 150 automatic. I can tell you that it completely baffles the ECU and does some strange things to the engine and the gearbox. Strange but true.

Instead try this. Consider your car to permanently in ECO mode and if you press the Sport button, see what happens. It unleashes a different beast altogether and if anything smooths out the gear changes.

Worth bearing in mind that he chip kit inferred above was originally on my SR180, and Lindop McKingo was informed by manufacturer that "the settings for the 180 and new 150 are so similar as to make no difference, so could be interchanged".......PANTS.......the engine rattle was extremely disconcertful, chip kit removed, unit checked as fully operational, and now owned by a fellow member who loves it in his T180.

Maybe a correct 150 unit in the OP's new Invincible will work OK........if not, it can be returned with a tube of Germoloids ointment to That Kingo.

As far as virtually permanent selection of SPORT mode, noo that is a find........if there is any mpg penalty, I have not detected it, but it makes it a far more enjoyable drive. Worth experimenting with prior to a Chip Kit "trial"........

We have had a kit on an auto, no problem, but now sold, we also have one on a manual, no problem, the GM runs it on his RAV and is amazed by it

As Kev said his was an early model kit, maybe there was something in the setup of his old box that the new car did not like, they are certainly not a problem on the two cars we have fitted them too, also sold kits online and had no issues

We offer a 30 day money back guarantee, no need for Germaloids, we can insert it back to stock without the need for cream

Kingo

Thanks for the quick responses, Anchorman and Big Kev.

They were an unexpected replies, I shall certainly try Sport Mode and report back. It is probably unfair to be too definitive as the car will still be running in but I will use the car trip history data to report back shortly on the mpg. Later when the car has settled in I will try some back to back trips, using the different modes, using the brim to brim technique for the fuel consumption figures.

GD.....after you get used to Sport setting, and you forget on the odd time to select it when you start up, may I be forgiven for saying......the Rav is almost boring to drive in what Anchs has named ECO Mode.

I have even gone as far as asking an electronics (sorta) knowledgable person hereon to investigate how to make car default to Sports Mode on start up......good techno speak, eh....default....?

Received my chip box from Kingo (thanks John) fitted it this morning and after a 20 mile drive all I can say is the car is now a pleasure to drive. Plenty of power on hand pushing me back in my seat and making the short but steep hills around here tame.

When I have had my fun using the extra power I will revert to normal driving and see if there are any mpg gains.

Looking forward also to dragging my tin hut to Southport mid July and enjoying the extra power.

Think I might have to get saving for one of these! Are they any good on the 2.2 d4d xt4 (no idea what bhp I have!)?

Also, is there a downside at all? Why don't toyota fit them as standard?
