Would You ? Re Usage Of Petrol ?

My Daughters car was written off on Friday just a few miles after she had filled it with petrol... So today whilst clearing it out I syphoned the tank and took fifty litres of unleaded out of it ....

The fuel has been put into mint clean containers but I can see tiny wee particles of something in the fuel Mmmmm

So will it be fine to put this petrol onto her new car ? I realise cars have inline fuel filters but dont want to end up buggering something up !

Should I relegate the fuel to the stihl saws and lawnmowers or is it OK to put it into her new (2008 Fiesta) car ??

Or should it go to the recycling centre ?

Cheers..

Why not filter it Charlie - coffee filter in a funnel?

Assume daughter OK if she is going to be driving again straight away?

Yes filtering it somehow would be a good idea.. Muslim cloth maybe ? We dont have coffee filters. Good idea though

What car is it Charlie?

Some already have filters in the system.

I'd guess it's a 2008 petrol Fiesta................

Glad your daughters ok Charlie.

Plastic funnel filters with a gauze insert are cheap and widely available.

I used to sell them to my gardener customers, who couldn't be bothered using them,so much of my work comes from unblocking tiny carb jets in machines..so I stopped supplying them.

You wouldn't believe the amount of dirt collected from what looks like clean fuel.

Google 'Midland Power' who I know definately sell them.

Yes it is a Fiesta petrol and I would think it would have a filter in the fuel line but wondered if it would block up or restrict the filter if there is one..

As long as whatever you're filtering with is fine enough, won't dissolve in petrol and won't shed anything into the fuel, then should be okay.

Alternatively, could leave it to settle and just siphon off the bit above the debris?

Sorry - never read it properly!

I doubt it would block the filter alone but might well finish it off. I guess the filter beforehand is the best idea.

Cheap source of filters would be from a auto paint shop. They are designed to be disposable and are just a few penny's each and are typically 125 & 200 microns, which I would think would get all the crud away that would be necessary.

I did as David suggested and carefully poured the fuel into a brand new and clean bucket through a funnel with a coffee filter in it.. The VP race containers I had syphoned the fuel into had a wee filter built into the long clear pouring tube/necks so that alone should have helped.. I of course had forgotten they were there Doh!

I then poured the fuel through another filter as I put it into the car so it should be nice and clean.. I then took the car to the Shell garage and brimmed it with Vpower unleaded...

Kingo... When Mark and I went over to empty the tank I turned and said to him in jets .. Ere mate dont get lighting a woodbine.. Only to see him stood right behind me with a !Removed! in mouth !!....

Glad you never used a MUSLIM cloth to filter the petrol........That just might have upset our ethnic population

Best and cheapest filter is a pair of the wife's tights, used them to filter diesel.

She complained about a the smell for a while after!

I've been a bit late responding here but here goes anyway..

Get yourself a one micron filter bag from eBay for a few quid. They're used or filtering bio diesel. Get one here:
