Apologies for asking this again - there seems to be conflicting answers out there hence not sure:

A) 2.2 D-4D BEFORE 19-05-09: it is EU4 173 g/km (136 bhp)- WITHOUT DPF

B) 2.2 D-4D AFTER 19 05 09 (Optimal drive): it is EU5 , 159 g/km (148 bhp) - WITH DPF

IS THIS CORRECT? Or B) has no DPF either??

(19-05-09 - New Optimal Drive 2.2 diesel 4WD manual with 150PS and 340Nm torque, yet CO2 down to 154g/km and combined mpg up to 48.7mpg.)

Thanks

I don't think it is. I can tell you anything that has a D-CAT system definitely does. That usually means T/SR180s and post 2009 models with auto boxes. Like mine, they have a D-CAT Badge on the front wing.

However, I had a 2010 RAV with the 150 engine that definitely did not have a DPF and a 2012 model that definitely did (but without the D-CAT system. I suspect the change came about the same time as the last 4.3 face lift but cannot confirm that 100%. So! ALL RAVs from about 2011 and all current 4.4 have a filter. Only those with auto boxes have a filter and the D-CAT system since the 180s were dropped.

Another question - I went to see one of the 148bhp version and it drove nicely however I hear whining high pitched sound, like turbo is whizzing - is this normal sound for this engine? Don't think I can hear it on 136 bhp version?

Thanks

There might be a slight background whine that makes the engine sound really sweet if you have the window down but I can't say I've noticed it an awful lot otherwise.
