its marketing hype BS to stop people downgrading to the cheaper 256k service.

I have the 512k service, which on average runs at about 350kb or there abouts, at peak times it often drops below 250k. My mates got the 1mb link and he only gets about 780kb on average. According to a site call DSLreports anyway.
