Hi,

Just bought a 2012 Toyota Auris 1.6 Petrol. Absolutely loving it so far .. Drives wonderfully.

The service was done 3 months ago by a Toyota Dealer. How often do you guys check engine oil ?

Also is it easy to topup yourself ?

Regards,

Approx fortnightly. However it gets rather boring as my previous 2009 Auris never needed topping up in the three years I had it, and neither has my 2012 Auris (so far). Both 1.33's. Easy to top up.

You could be too late! ;)

But it is a Toyota.......So you should be OK

Doubt it - they don't tend to need topping up.

it should also have an oil level warning light but far better to check regularly rather than rely on that telling you that it's low.

Glad I bought a Toyota instead of a peugeot :)..

I will check it first thing tomorrow morning..

Petrol models don't have a low oil level warning message (Optitron instruments) or warning light (analogue instruments). The 1.6 with analogue instruments has a low oil pressure warning light, and the 1.33 with Optitron instruments has a low oil pressure warning message. Which is why regular oil checks are needed.

Diesels have low oil level warnings.

Hi check my levels weekly or before a long journey. I have needed to top up the oil during the last 10,000 miles. This has taken nearly three years to do .Going from local trips to long high speed trips evaporates the water that accumulates and does get burnt off due lower temperatures. So when checking your oil, you may think that you have an increase in consumption. My Dealer will top up my oil for free between a services.

Regards

Allan
