Hi does anyone know of a guide or a manual for changing the injectors on the D4-D engine?

Or does anyone know the procedure for doing it?

I'd be too scared to even think of it after all the stories of people injecting diesel into their veins by accident or cutting bits of themselves off due to not de-pressurising the CR system fully! :eek:

This is why I am seeking the required info. A manual for the engine is proving very hard to find. I certainly wouldn't put myself at risk, I have had injector problems on and off for years now. New injectors are horrendous prices, so I've been buying used and having a garage change them. It's a little annoying paying labour costs on used parts and finding the ones you've bought run worse than what's been taken out. I'll have to pay to change them back again, it would be a lot easier if I could do it myself.

The injectors on the D4D (And most CR systems) are really !Removed! hard to change unless you have the right gear.

The main problem is the injector timing, which has ridiculously tight tolerances, and unless they have the gear to calibrate them correctly they will just run like crap, even if you have brand new units.

has a comprehensive manual. It costs to buy the relevant sections. You pay a fee and download what you want. I paid for an hour and downloaded the bits I wanted. No doubt the fuel injection system is covered - I have part of it but not removing injectors.

Frankly if you have to ask, you are likely not to be competent to do the job properly as a competent person would know what to do and where to look.

Training by DIY on highly complex systems is a sure way to spend a fortune and get it wrong in my view.

Sorry to appear so negative.

I know my limitations and would not try but go to a specialist - probably a fuel injection specialist.

Subject to the standard precautions such as disconnecting the Battery & discharging the fuel pressure the replacement of the injectors is pretty simple, however when fitting / re fitting injectors you have to input the injector compensation codes into the engine ecu, failure to do so can cause damage to the engine/injectors, cause the car to fail to start or cause rough running issues . Each injector has a unique alpha numeric sequence printed on the top and once fitted before attempting to start the code for each cylinder is input into the engine ecu using an approved diagnostic computer.

It turned out the replacement injectors were the wrong ones for the 75 BHP engine.

I've put new seals on all of the injectors and it's running well now. !Removed! garages could of sorted this for us ages ago, it's been wrongly diagnosed by BMW and an independent Mini specialist on more than one occasion as needing new injectors. In the end new seals have cured it.

Thanks for the pointer towards the on line manual for the engine. Oh also thanks for the votes of incompetence Madasfish! Obviously asking for a little info means I'm incompetent and clearly can't hold a spanner, cheers!

**** man, don't be so prickly, we were just warning you that it is dangerous and not something to be taken lightly! There's a lot more to the injectors than waving a spanner at them and we haven't gotten psychic enough to know what every new poster's technical competency is!

Would you have preferred we said Go ahead, it's easy! and then come back to complain later because you'd hospitalized yourself?

There is a good reason why there are specialists for things like injectors, as opposed to say air filters and EGR valves (Which are about as technical as I get! :lol:)

I'm not being prickly, I appreciate what people are saying. I did make it clear I wasn't prepared to put myself at risk all I needed was info on the procedure and I could take it from there.

Thanks for the info anyway. I've sorted it out myself, and fixed what 3 garages wrongly diagnosed.
