Hey guys jst wondered if u could give us a lil help, mum owns a 2001 Previa CDx recently shes been experienceing two problems:

Firstly weve found that for no apparent reason the alarm goes off at nite, we is parked on a private drive so not like cars getting too close or some1 walking past and setting it off.

Secondly on the odd occasion the car wont unlock, takes a couple of attempts to get it to respond. For this problem she was given a new key but problem still occurs..

Thinking of taking this toyota and seeing what they say about this, jst wondered if u have any ideas or insight b4 we go

Thanks all Charlie

sounds like my mr2... lol

My alarm is very unresponsive.. you have to click click click until it locks/unlocks. It's not the remote either as the other one is the same, so I dunno.

My car alarm used to sound all the time also. In my case the engine bay sensor thing needed adjusted so the lid pressed harder down on it. Whenever it was rainy/windy, the neighbours would get multiple midnight wake up calls.

I had the same problem, alarm going of at any time, I coated my engine bay sensor with silacon (excuse my :censor: spelling) which made it less sensitive to rain and vibrations. Worked a treat.

Quite a common problem with alarms installed on MR2's (and some other cars) is when they fit the switch in the engine bay (so if someone opens the lid the alarm sound) they fit it on the wrong side of the rubber seal so whenever it rains the switch gets wet and shorts out the contacts and the alarm will sound. Also if a switch is exposed to moisture for long periods of time it's likely to corrode the contacts, making it difficult to opperate things like central locking.

If a switch is being exposed to rain or large amount of water (flowing in a channel) then move it to somewhere it's not going to get wet but still be opperational (fairly obvious)

Find out which switch is being faulty and give a spray of WD40 - it will keep moisture out and contacts clean
