Definitely!! (I use one for all work on an alloy engine ... )

Also recommend an impact wrench (I bought a mains powered from machinemart) to get the crankshaft pulled bolt off...

I did mine recently (1cd-ftv engine) and I have to make-up a tool to extract the crankshaft pulley .... was just a bit of thick steel and some self-tapped M8 holes .... you'll see what's needed when you take the bottom cover off.

If you buy the corolla Haines manual, it covered the 1cd-ftv engine

Hi Andrew, I was lazy and got a garage to change my cambelt. I had the Gates Kit.

How did you get on with yours. Also do use a pulley extractor with bolts that screw into the crank pulley, otherwise you may damage the pulley by causing the outer part of the pulley to separate from the rubber filling. Originals cost nearly £300 from Toyota, you can get a lot cheaper elsewhere. Hopefully the crank pulley comes off easily.

I posted recently about the condition of the belt and pulley, and pleased with the condition of the old parts. The pulley is a tough piece of kit compared to what some other manufactures use in their cars!

Nice to hear your experience.
