Gen Iii 'rattle-Trap'.

There have been a number of threads about rattles in the Gen III. Tracing a rattle can be frustrating at the best of times, especially if sometimes the rattle isn't really coming from where you appear to hear it.

I don't have any rattles, but this weekend I did spot a potential 'rattle-trap'.

I had the car jacked up and one of the front wheels off when I spotted some undertrays fixed to the underside of the car, between the front and rear wheels. There are two either side.

Being inquisitive, I tapped the trays. And they rattled. And they rattled because they were full of road stones and gravel.

They are easy to remove with a screwdriver and clean out.

They actually cover some cabling running the length of the car. <<HV (orange cabling) is on the right side, >>

If you have a rattle, here's one spot you can eliminate quite easily.

Thanks for this tip, Chippy.

I've had a rattle for some time seeming to come from the passenger side rear area. I took it to my dealer today and they cleaned it out - result no rattles. They wanted to charge £60 for the job but agreed to waive the charge as a goodwill gesture when I complained that it was a known design fault that other owners had also suffered.
