How Do I Clean A Dirty Hud?

All of a sudden, I've got a lot of dirt on the inside of the HUD unit and it is affecting how the image is displayed on the screen.

I tried cleaning the outside, and the windscreen, but realised it is actually on the inside of the HUD plastic. It looks like the entire unit is in a plastic transparent case.

There are 2 screws at the windscreen end, but can't even get a small screwdriver in to undo them as it is so close to the screen.

How the hell am I going to get this clean?

Has anybody managed to remove theirs and clean it?

Is this something only a Toyota dealer could do at great expense?

Here is a photo with the outer cowling removed.

You can get 90 degree screwdriver units and you'd be able to do a1/4 turn or a screwdriver unit with a flexible shaft might help.

Taking a closer look, the unit looks like this. (click on image to enlarge)

There are 2 screws at the screen end and another 2 about 3 inches down towards the front. If I got them out, I'd never get them back in.

It looks like something that is beyond my skills. I wonder if Toyota would fix a problem like this under warranty.

Warranty is always a good place to start. The worst that can happen is they say no. Please let us know how you get on.
