Will My 2013 Yaris Be Written Off?

It isn't always the case that insurance premiums increase after a claim is made.

In 2008 my partner's 8 month old Mazda was hit by a drug dealer's pool car involved in a police chase. The pool car overtook the line of traffic my partner was in, and as they reached my partner's car, they tried to take the side road my partner's car was almost level with. Our car was hit on the front driver's side, and dragged round into the side road. The pool car slewed round into the side road, restarted, turned around and continued away - followed within seconds by police cars with their blues and twos going.

The drug dealers were caught.

Damage to our car was £1900, and the collision was declared an uninsured loss.

At the next renewal, my partner's insurance wasn't increased markedly - just basically cost of living increase of about £10 - and we've had no increase at subsequent renewals due to this uninsured loss.

Suppose having a guaranteed no claims discount may have helped.

Ok our insurer may have used the MIB Uninsured Driver's Scheme to cover their costs, but our premiums

haven't been adversely affected.
