The antenna mount is obviously designed to allow the antenna's angle to be adjusted.

Why anyone would want to is neither here nor there, but I have found to do so requires a lot of force being applied to it. So much so that the roof panel around the mount flexes quite noticeably.

The dealer checked on another similar mount and found it also very difficult to move. They say that there is no adjustment for the stiffness of movement. Whether they know that or are guessing is not clear.

I noticed, however, with my finger, that there seems to be a screw hole at the rear of the mount's base, but I can't see it to establish if there's a slot, a recessed cross or a hex hole - which could be a tightness adjustment point.

Does anyone here know?

No, I don't know for sure, but try applying a little oil or WD40...I don't think there is an adjusting clamp, the pivot has probably just dried up.

They are stiff, probably to stop it flapping about but the use of WD40 allowed me to adjust the angle sufficiently so it doesn't look like a remote control car...

I don't know about drying up, Colin, it's brand new; I got it only a few weeks ago. But, nevertheless, lubrication was the first thing which came to mind and I applied a small dose of the ubiquitous WD 40 (is there anybody who doesn't own a can? :D ).

Made no detectable difference. That thing isn't tight, it's tight and a half.

Ah well.

The product derived from an experiment to find a Water Displacement compound that would be a rust penetrative solvent and degreaser tom protect missile parts.

WD-40 was created in 1953 by 3 technicians at The San Diego Rocket Company that finally got it right on the 40th attempt, hence WD-40!

The Convair Company bought it in bulk to protect their Atlas Missile parts.

Oh yeah, and the basic main ingredient is................. Fish Oil !!

There we go, we learn something new every day

Not according to WD-40 it doesn't!

Consumers have told us over the years that they have caught some of the biggest fish ever after protecting their fish hooks and lures with WD-40. We believe this legend came from folks assuming that the product must contain fish oil since it appears to attract fish. Sorry Charlie®, it just ain’t so.

Apparantly not

Over the past few decades, the name Stoddard Solvent was synonymous with all mineral spirits. Today, the mineral spirits found in products like ours are more refined and processed (see hydrogenation, hydrotreating and distillation techniques) providing mixtures with varying boiling points, cleaning ability, and chemical composition.

The catchall phrase “Stoddard Solvent” is no longer adequate to tell the proper story. WD-40 does indeed have 50% mineral spirits, but they are refined and purified for specific characteristics needed to meet today’s performance, regulatory, and safety requirements.
