Avensis T22 2001 D4D. Near the speedometer, there is a button "DIM". What does it do?

Dims the instrument lighting either by pushing or turning?

Dims the instrument lighting either by pushing or turning?

I've tried to push/turn it. Nothing noticeable happened..

With later Toyota models, to adjust the brightness of the instrument lighting one needs to have the headlights on. Also try keeping the button depressed.

Pressing the button switches between the total and trip odometers. Pressing and holding down the button gradually changes the brightness of the instrumentation and is marked on the odometer display as it changes.

Richard is spot on. With the lights on, press and hold the odometer button and the display begins to dim or brighten. This depends where the dim cycle brightens is.

The problem is that the function is no always obvious.

One further tip.

Make sure the odometer is not is trip mode, but in odometer mode, otherwise the dimmer will not work!

So long as the instrument panel is lit, the dimmer will work.
