Oh, and you forgot the cost of a warranty too!

No I didn't forget.........just did'nt want to be shot down as a whinging dealer

I agree, you can get a lot more for a car privately........sometimes! But for the vast majority, it is just a hassle to sell the old car, for the reasons stated above

I have seen at first hand the under handed things people do when trading in a car, the dealer is seen as fair game (rightly or wrongly depending on your view) yet people gasp when they see the car on the forecourt priced at £2000 more than they received in P/Ex. Just remember, most people want to haggle a bargain and there has to be some sort of margin in the car to do that..................now dont get me started on the lack of profit in new cars.............

Kingo

People get too hung up on the P/Ex price, what matters is the cost to change

Exactly.

If you don't PX and sell privately, there is a cost to that too.

I was happy as I negotiated £1000 off the sticker price for the Prius+ because my Gen 3 was as good as new so it would be easy to sell. The starting price of the Prius+ was below the national average looking around on the web. Then I didn't have the hassle/worry of dealing with private individuals with wads of cash or dodgy bank drafts and the rest of it. They put my 3yr old Gen 3 up for £13,999 and sold it in about 3 weeks.
