The drive belt snapped on my car and I thought it would be a good time to get the alternator replaced.

I cannot remove the top bolt that connects the alternator. Was this thing welded on? It just won't budge.

The bolt itself is starting to burr so now I don't know what to do.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Why would you change the alternator if it still works? That is a large expense for no reason!

You should use a good quality hex socket on the bolt before you round it off. Those bolts can be very tight, a long handled ratchet will give you more leverage too

The alternator is making some very unhealthy sounds, I suspect it's just the bearings but I cannot be certain.

Either way, I still have to loosen the bolt to get the Drive Belt back on

if you take a long screw driver or use the handle off a trolley jack put one end on the alternator housing at one end and put your ear on the other end of the screw driver / jack handle and you will be able to hear the bearings and know whether the noise is coming from that end then do the same on the other housing ,you can use this method to locate sounds from anythink
