Have a 1988 Corolla (gotta check if it's carbureted or FI) and it's got a bad idle problem (rough idle) when the car is stopped and the auto trans is in Drive. When we put it in Neutral, the idle problem goes away and it's smooth. Mechanic replaced distributor but problem is still there.

Possible too much fuel and have to adjust A/F mix? Or maybe idle speed? Will definitely look and clean out carburetor or throttle body depending on which one it has.

Also had run-on for a short while after driving heavily in city traffic for an hour or so. Could this also be related to too much fuel?

Thanks!

Sandy

Its not a problem with the motor

it sounds more like autogearbox is a bit sick try changing the fluid if this dosent fix the prob. take it t a transmition specilist.

it might even be the idle advance vacume line. (blocked or broken or just off)

Thanks very much! Will definitely replace ATF to see if that helps.
