Its proberbly been asked before i know, but i need some suggestions.

The electric ariel motor i can hear trying to push the ariel up and down when the ignition is turned on/off. The ariel itself with a bit of help did move but is now going nowhere (its stuck half up).

First, can it be fixed and how to fix it ?

Second, if it can't be fixed how do i get at it,and remove it ?

Third where do i get a new one from at a decent price ?

All help appreciated. Cheers.

Gaz.

it sounds like the teeth are not aligned

When I bought my girl she didint have an arial so I got one from toyota, cost roughly £35-40.

I didnt actually do the job myself, but I do know that you have to get the teeth aligned perfectly together like a zip, then the motor can move the arial up and down.:eek:

Hope this helps.

I had this on the mr2, was told its gona cost £40 for new aerial. All i did was remove the current one from the car,

strip it down,

De grease the wire and gear,

Regrease with some good stuff and put back together again.

The teerh on mine are self-alining, it was just the wire getting jammed due to rust and bad grease.

Took 30minutes, cost me nowt as i had the grease already and it works a treat now.

Had this too .... got the replacement aerial... when I opened it up there was only about 3 inch of teeth left on it !. Where does it go?!!!

One very messy gunky horrible job to put a new one in but then am mad enough to try to do all myself.

I've done this on many customers cars. It's really simple but you'll need someone to turn you ign/radio on and off or a stereo with remote is really handy. You have probably just stripped some teeth off the cable. Unscrew the collar around the aerial after it has come up as far as it can. Grab the mast and pull it out slowly taking note of which way the teeth are facing (you have to insert the new one the same way). Check that your new mast has a sleeve around it, if not use the old one. Feed the new one down until it will go no further and then turn the stereo off. Feed the aerial down (you may have to push it down the last few cm) and screw the collar back on. It's easy to do but getting it to grab can take a few trys.

Enjoy.
