Switched 12V Power Options: Newbie (Please Be Gentle!)

Hi, I am new to the forum and have just bought a 2012 Avensis Tourer (T-Spirit).

Is there the possibility of fitting a DIY "switched" powers supply in the luggage area? I am struggling to get the "Touch & Go" set up properly, so it is safe to assume that I do not have an encyclopaedic knowledge of the cars wiring loom and its passage throughout the car. This is the nearest I will ever get to buying a new car and so I am reluctant to start ripping out interior trim panels "on the off chance".

Can anyone help?

Angus

When I fitted a towbar to mine 2011 2.2D4D TR, there was no power supply cable in the boot area with the required power capability and I had to run heavy cables direct from the Battery, via fuses of course to feed the caravan 12v onboard electrics and fridge.

Thanks Revband, all I need to power in the luggage area is a 12v cool box (40w) and normal "Cigarette Lighter Type" accessories. I am really just looking for a switched power lead in that area of the car that I can "ScotchClip" into. My last car (Vectra Elite "POS") seemed to have power sockets everywhere (and a DAB Radio, but that is a story for another thread.....).

Looks like I will have to run the supply from the fuse box after all.

Unfortunately, the 12V socket in the centre console is not useable since toyota fitted the lid to the centre console. If you plug anything into that socket, you risk damaging the wire every time the lid is closed by trapping the wire. This leaves the one socket by the ashtray in the dash. I plugged an adaptor angled plug type with 2 x 12V sockets and 2 x USB sockets into mine, the only problem is that it covers the HVAC controls and display. It was suggested that I drill the back of the centre console and fit a socket which is wired to the one on the centre console (I have an electric coolbox which I keep behind the front passenger seat) but as a leased company car that has to be returned damage and modification free, this is not an option. There is a flying lead type extension which contains 12V and USB sockets which fits in the round cup holder behind the gear lever but I use this cup holder so this is not an option.
