It may only be made of straw, but this giant Dalek looks like it could cause Dr Who a few problems if he ever ended up in Cheshire.

The magnificent straw sculpture was created by Snugburys Ice Cream who are currently putting the finishing touches to it in a field close to the market town of Nantwich.

Every year for the past decade the company has worked with Mike Harper of Harbook Engineering to build an impressive sculpture near the A51 Chester Road.

This year’s sculpture coincides with the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, set to air in November.

For over 10 years the ice cream shop have been building amazing straw sculptures in their field.

‘We just enjoy making them and love how much pleasure other people get from them,’ the company explained on its website.

‘Each year we have great fun making ice cream cones which look like our sculptures. These in turn help to raise money for a select charity.’

Past sculptures include a tribute to the Team GB Olympic cycling team, a polar bear and a meerkat.

The fearsome Daleks are among the foes who will return for the 50th anniversary special of Doctor Who.

The aliens celebrate their own half century this year and will appear in the BBC1 show to mark the milestone in a special which will unite the outgoing Doctor, Matt Smith, and his predecessor David Tennant.
