Farewell Old Friend.....

Our two 4.2's have gone, making way for a rather neat 12-reg XTR Diesel Auto. The demands of increasingly gangly teenagers and painful fuel consumption finally came to a head - although the petrols were relatively bomb-proof, they were not our wallet's best friends.

Nevertheless, leaving them behind at the dealer, I felt a bit like when I had to have our old labrador put down, especially with respect to the 02-reg 5-dr. 11 years on, I have to say it was the best car overall that I've owned. The new one's got some challenging wheel tracks to fill......

Here's a few pics (I hope!post-49435-0-13735500-1375371213_thumb.jpost-49435-0-81299200-1375371215_thumb.jpost-49435-0-12892200-1375371218_thumb.j).

Very nice Jim

Looks like us petrol owners are becoming few and far between, but the MPG is the killer for us too and was wondering at one point whether a diesel would suit us,well Mrs P,with her only doing 40 miles a day on average??

Nice car, but don't we all know the feeling when an old friend goes! For me it was a 1971 MG Midget, owned and loved for 14 years. Actually shed tears for that one. A Citroen BX 19GT which did nearly 200000 miles with no problems, and the old BMW 328i touring, all owned for many years.

Getting maudlin' now, better have another G and T.

Happy days

Hmmm ... Painful fuel consumption so you buy an Auto RAV?

Everything is relative I guess ;) Anyway, ignoring that, cracking car and enjoy :D

Yea, I've always liked that Vermillion. Makes a change from the silvers, greys, blacks & dk greens we've had in the past 11 yrs.

I see where you're coming from, David, but if you consider that we had two petrol autos, they were spending more time depreciating on the drive than they were being used, and space was a critical requirement, then one car makes more sense. The RAV was the only choice in the end given the great service we've had from Mr. T over the past 13 years plus the fact that this car was priced well & there is still nearly 4 yrs of manufacturer's warranty on it. Diesel will be cheaper and whatever we got, it had to be an auto as The Boss "doesn't do gears".

No point in spending loads of money on a drive-filler, so makes sense. I agree with you (or a least the Boss ;) ) on the gears side. I am pretty sure my next car with be another auto :)

It is just a shame that Toyota lumbered the auto RAV with that D-CAT system that kills economy, as the auto box itself is just sublime.

Looks good. I will also be buying an auto next time! Not sure about a late 4.3 or an early 4.4, also not sure about petrol or diesel, and also wonder about a Landcruiser...... In the meantime our current RAV is a stonking car - just brought it back from the Yorkshire Dales and it drove like a dream!

Enjoy your new car Jim.

Know the feeling well, just part x'd my 11 year old nrg after 10 years and 138k miles . Left it there on wednesday and pick my 'new ' one up tomorrow. But for me they're swapping my sidebars and wheels over to - a 1 owner 55 plate 32k miles xtr diesel 3 door, happy days for me, but such a wrench walking away from my old friend.

The 4.4 doesn't do it for me. Looks like the sprog of a Kuga & a Sportage. Although never a big fan of the 4.3 and having always considered the 4.2 to be the nicest design of all the RAV's, I was a bit torn when looking for a replacement for our 4.2's. Nevertheless i reckoned it best to stick with MrT and, to be fair, the 4.3 has a good reputation (even allowing for the diesel engine issue which MrT handled impeccably) and it is much roomier than the 4.2.

I had a 57-reg LC4 a few years back & it was a brilliant vehicle. Apart from the initial purchase price, it was quite cheap to run and had bags of space. It's road presence helped keep people in their place, if you get my drift and I never had to worry about parking dings as, for some reason, people don't like parking near them..............
