Hi, I have a 2012 prius T4 with Sat Nav upgrade on the the touch & go, could anyone tell me how I can get traffic updates to be displayed? I can bluetooth to my Sony Xperia S on T-Mobile for phone calls and contacts, but can't get any traffic messages to display. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks

Mine is 2013 Prius Plus T4 with the upgrade to satnav too. Not sure if its what you mean but mine has the TMC traffic updates coming through without any phone data link. I think TMC comes via FM transmissions so maybe you have to thave the audio system turned on? To be honest though, having had TMC based traffic on a number of portable sat-navs its not that great and if it does alert you to traffic on the main road/motorway and you accept the "avoid" option you are just as likely to be delayed on the minor roads as TMC doesn't have any detectors on minor roads so assumes they are clear even if they are clogged up with people following the "avoid" route! At least it gives you a reasonably accurate guestimate of how long the delay will add to your journey if you stick with the main road.

The Touch & Go plus on my Prius+ T-spirit shows the congested roads in red on the map, including all the surrounding roads, but it is slow to update, so you could be in the jam by the time the road turns red.

The traffic messages are not displayed on the NAV, they come over from the FM radio stations, the same as most cars do.

Having said that, I haven't actually been in a traffic jam yet with the Nav guiding me anywhere, the red roads show up on the map without the guidance on.

Was caught behind an accident the other day on way home from work (20 mile commute) i popped in my home on the sat nav (although i know most of the other routes home, i fancied testing out the sat nav) and was surprised that it told me to go left (not right) and unlike most normal hand held sat navs i owned, it didn't tell me to to "turn around" and keep going the way i normally go (where the accident was).

Now maybe it was a weird oddity it took me left and not right (which is traditionally quicker) but my friend who was also traveling home went right and got caught in more traffic as they had closed the road along further than most people expected)

now if this wall down to the in car sat nav knowing what was going on or it was just some big coincidence i guess i dont know, but all i will say is i didnt know if it knew or not...so my answer is... yeah its probably doing it any way

Edit: just checked the hand book and says touch Nav, then touch traffic messages, touch "on route" to see messages relating to the set route (p32 of the touch and go book)
